Inappropriate Veto of HB 618

Gov. Nixon just vetoed HB 618 which would have allowed NPs to sign death certificates. Now I don’t have too much need myself personally in psychiatry to be able to perform this task, but I find it illogical for this bill to be vetoed for my family care counterparts and physician assistants. Nixon argues the he does not want inaccuracies to be on certificates but I want to set something straight. Missouri does not require their coroners to be medical doctors or have a degree in forensic pathology…just a bachelors degree. When one of the biggest arguments Missouri politicians use against the Nurse Practitioner field is “years of education and clinical experience” how can Missouri politicians turn around and allow “duly elected officials” the decisions with far less education than nurse practitioners? Just saying. Funny how education requirements are less important or ignored when it affects political roles in Missouri. https://governor.mo.gov/sites/default/files/hb%20618_2015_07_10_09_56_58_353.pdf
